Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire authorities join together to call for fairer funding deal

Councils in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire will come together on Monday to launch a campaign for fairer funding in the two counties.

The four local authorities (Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, Derby and Derbyshire) are teaming up following the budget settlement in December, which revealed spending cuts of much greater proportion to those made to councils in more affluent areas.

Nottingham City Council deputy leader Coun Graham Chapman said: “It is areas like our own, where funding has been hit the hardest, that also have some of the highest demands for their services.

“Authorities like Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire have done all they can to mitigate the impact of funding reductions, but if they continue, there will be no choice but to cut front line services.

“That’s why we are coming together to ask the government to make fairer the way it funds our authorities.”

The authorities will run a joint petition calling for fair funding, to be presented in parliament later this year.

The launch event will take place on 26th January, at 10am at Mackworth Library, Derby.
