Nottingham Crown Court heard that police officers executed a warrant at Dunne’s home address on November 5, 2014.

Inside a car at the property the officers found a gift bag containing a large quantity of heroin and cocaine with a potential street value of £180,000.

Analysis of mobile phones found at the house showed Dunne messaging people that he had drugs available for sale.

In addition to the drugs the officers found three guns, one of which was already loaded, and a large quantity of ammunition. Dunne did not possess a firearms certificate.

Cash amounting to around £10,000 was also found at the house.

When analysing the fingerprints on the gift bag, police matched one of the fingerprints to Gemma South. Officers then went to her home address the same day and recovered two further bags containing cocaine.

Dunne was charged with three counts of possession of a firearm, three counts of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, possession of ammunition, possession with intent to supply cocaine and possession with intent to supply heroin.

He pleaded guilty to all offences at Nottingham Crown Court on November 3 2015.

South was charged with possession with intent to supply cocaine. She was convicted on November 13 2015 following a trial.

Temporary Detective Chief Inspector, Karen Pearson, said: “While the sentencing of Darren Dunne and Gemma South is obviously very welcome, it is perhaps even more satisfying to know that three guns have been taken off the streets of Nottinghamshire.

“It is very disturbing that a determined criminal such as Dunne has been able to obtain these weapons. Thankfully, the excellent work of the investigative team means he will never be given the opportunity to use them to threaten or to carry out acts of violence.

“This outcome also means that we have again disrupted part of the drugs supply network in Nottinghamshire, ensuring that Dunne and South will no longer be able to profit from the sale of the heroin or cocaine that they had acquired.”
