Nottinghamshire Police recorded just 88 per cent of reported crimes

HM Inspectors of Constabulary (HMIC) found the force recorded just 88 per cent of reported crimes when they visited them this summer to look at crime data integrity.

The sample of crime reports was analysed from November 2012 to October 2013.

A spokesman for the force said processes have changed and incidents are now being reviewed more rigorously to improve accuracy in recording.

ACC Steve Jupp said: “We take crime recording seriously and I am determined to ensure that our officers and staff record every crime accurately. We have come a long way in the last year, with improvements being made across the board.”

He said the latest figures now showed a 96 per cent compliance.

He added: “We have trained our staff and empowered them to get it right. But we are not stopping there. I am determined to ensure we record crimes 100 per cent accurately so that victims of crime get the best service possible.”

The report said nationally one in five of all crimes reported to the police are not being recorded by officers.
