Ofsted judged Skegby Junior Academy, as “good” following an inspection there last month.

The school was formerly Daneswood Junior school and was judged as “requires improvement” at its last inspection in 2013.

After looking at documents, observing records and meeting pupils, parents and staff, the inspectors found that “good teaching ensures that pupils make good progress in a wide range of subjects, including English and mathematics, in every year group”.

The academy, sponsored by the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust (GDFT), was also praised for providing “a broad and interesting curriculum that promotes good achievement for pupils and contributes well to their personal and social development”.

School Principal, Mr Pattison, is delighted with the outcome and has thanked all pupils and staff who have supported the academy.

He said: “I feel confident that we are exceptionally well prepared to continue to move forward and become an ‘outstanding’ Academy in the future.”

Inspectors also found that “pupils show a keen interest in learning” and are “polite, courteous and friendly” and that “the school’s work to keep pupils safe and secure is good”.

Sir Barry Day, OBE, Chief Executive of the GDFT, thinks that the school thoroughly deserved this outcome.

“I am pleased Ofsted recognised that one of the key strengths of our Trust is the ability to call upon the expertise of other Academies within the Trust so that successful teaching techniques can be shared,” he said.

The school are also celebrating the improvement in attendance since the school became an academy, which is now above the national average.
