Started in 2008, students at the Ollerton school are urged to complete 15 miles or more target over a two-week period by running, jogging or walking a mile lap around the perimeter of the premises.

The lap was named the Cartwright Lap after the highest achiever in 2012 and 13-year-old Will showed his athletics excellence by accruing the furthest distance this year.

The grand total of this year’s laps reached a remarkable 4303.5 miles - the distance from Ollerton to Miami in Florida.

Other top students in each year group were Matthew Mayes (year seven, 87.5 miles), Jazz Hackleton (year nine, 71.5 miles), Morgan Crane (year 10, 40.5 miles).

Ian Barton, Dukeries’ principal, unveiled a plaque recognising Will’s achievement.

His name is now displayed on the Academy field alongside winners from previous years.
