SCOUTS from the Dispatch district are among more than 3,200 youngsters who will take part in a weekend-long spectacular to celebrate the upcoming London 2012 Olympics and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The first-ever Notts Scouts Big Weekend is being held at Southwell Racecourse across the May Day Bank Holiday weekend (from next Friday, May 4, to Monday May 7).
Almost 200 Scouts from Hucknall groups will be at the event, which will launch with an Olympics-style opening ceremony. The aim is to allow as many Scouts to come together as possible for a mass celebration.
More than 100 attractions will range from ice-skating and hay climbing to raft-building and water sphering. Two world-record attempts are also being lined up, although the challenges are yet to be revealed.
