Immigration is one of thebiggest concerns for voters

Last week I was out door knocking and the biggest issue to come up was immigration so I thought I’d take the opportunity to explain to Chad readers where I stand.

We should start by counting people from outside Europe in and out of our borders.

Local folk shouldn’t be denied the opportunity to get work, so I’d like to see recruitment agencies banned from only hiring overseas workers and every large firm that does take on a non-EU worker should be forced to offer an apprenticeship to a local person in return.

Those that flout minimum wage laws should also have the fines doubled.

It’s wrong that people who come here to work can send child benefit home – I’d stop it.

It’s also wrong to arrive and claim benefits straight away. That also needs to be stopped.

And finally anyone working in a face to face public sector job such as a nurse must be able to speak English.

Doorstep after doorstep and conversation after conversation it’s an issue that is brought up with me.

Let me know if you have any other questions by emailing me on [email protected] or write to me at 8 Station Street, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, NG17 7AR.

On Saturday evening I received an email from a gentleman on behalf of his elderly parents in Sutton that literally had me hopping mad.

He told me that his mum and dad, who are 89 and 78, have been filling in council diaries to record their neighbour’s anti-social behaviour for almost FIVE YEARS.

I can’t even begin to imagine what it’s like putting up with shouting, swearing, banging and suspected drug use from dusk until dawn.

I’ve already taken this case up with council chiefs and told them to investigate as a matter of urgency because the length of time this has been going on is frankly ridiculous.

If you’ve had similar problems don’t hesitate to contact me and I’ll do all that I can as your MP to ensure the authorities come down hard on the perpetrators.

Finally for those that were fortunate enough to miss it - the aim of the recent Lib Dem conference seemed to be to pretend that Government policies have nothing to do with them despite voting for them.

A new novel approach to politics.

In light of this I thought it would help people in Ashfield if I asked the candidate here whether his party can rule out working with the Tories again and if he wanted to apologise for the Liberal Democrat MPs voting against raising the minimum wage, supporting the Bedroom Tax, backing tax cuts for millionaires, increasing tax rises on working people and trebling tuition fees.

I’ll let you know when he replies.
