Insp Nick Butler column: We are working hard to cut crime in Hucknall

In real terms this is an increase of 190 crimes. House burglary saw an increase in the Summer of 2013, but we quickly got on top of this problem by arresting and convicting the offenders, receiving additional resources from other parts of the county and managing offenders released from prison robustly.

In 2014, crime and anti-social behaviour has started to drop significantly and I am sure that with our partners in Ashfield we can keep improving.

I am very proud of the work we have piloted in Hucknall with the appointment of our domestic abuse support worker late last year.

We have always acted positively when domestic abuse incidents are reported to us but the survivors of such abuse needs support and advice for several weeks or even months afterwards.

This is something that we haven’t been so good at and that’s why I built a case for our own support worker.

She works within our Police Station but contacts survivors after the incident has been attended and offers practical guidance and support sensitively at a pace everyone is comfortable with.

I am heartened by how many people have engaged and the results are starting to speak for themselves.

There is nothing more important to me than getting this right and Mr Tipping the Police and Crime Commissioner has supported my business case for this post for a further 12 months.
