THE STAGE is set, oh yes it is, for a first-ever pantomime performance at Holgate Comprehensive School in Hucknall.

‘Hansel and Gretel’ will take its bow with a matinee performance especially for 200 children from local primary schools.

Evening performances will be on Tuesday November 29 and Thursday December 1.

The show at the Nabbs Lane School is based on the original Brothers Grimm story but has been re-written by the school’s community arts manager, Becky Morris, and her sister, Rochelle Mace, who is an ex-pupil of the Hucknall National School.

The story is set in Olde Holgersville and centres around Hansel and Gretel, the Hasselhoff twins (!).

It is a tale of how they run away from home, afraid of their stepmother’s plans to send them away to Scotland, and end up trapped in a cage in the forest.

Characters include the witch, Scorpio, Dame Dumpling and the twins uncle, billionaire David Hasselhoff!

The cast is 22-strong, nine pupils form the band and 30 children have been involved in set design and work behind the scenes.

Co-directors are Becky and teaching assistant Sarah Chumun.
