Panto trip for a young carer

The Co-operative Funeralcare in New Ollerton is offering an unpaid young carer and their family a special treat - free tickets to see Robinson Crusoe at the Mansfield Palace Theatre on 31st January.

And to make the trip even more special, they will take the whole family to the panto by limousine.

Daryl Westwood, manager of funeral home, said; “We are on the lookout for a young person in the New Ollerton or wider Mansfield area who is a carer for a family member so that we can treat them and their family to a great chauffeur-driven night out to the theatre.

“Young carers don’t often get the chance to go out due to their caring responsibilities and so, as part of our charity partnership with Carer’s Trust, we would like to treat them to a stylish night out to see Robinson Crusoe.”

To nominate a young carer and their family (maximum two adults and two children) email [email protected] or write to The Co-operative Funeralcare, Rufford House, Sherwood Drive, New Ollerton NG22 9PP by 24th January explaining in under 100 words why you believe they should be nominated.

Please also include the young carer’s name, age and who they care for, as well as your own contact details.

The Co-operative Group has been supporting young carers and young adult carers as part of their support for the UKs largest carers charity, Carers Trust, who have been The Co-operative charity of the year for 2013.

Simon Foulds, fundraiser for Carers Trust, said: “We’re really grateful to the team in New Ollerton and we know that there are hundreds of young carers in the area who would love to go!

“Young carers and young adult carers can often be isolated and unsupported in caring for their loved ones, so this would be a fantastic trip out for them and their family.”

There are an estimated 500,000 unpaid young adult carers in the UK.

These are 14-25 year-olds who care for a family member or friend and who often sacrifice their own future prospects in order to care for their loved ones.

The money raised from the partnership with The Co-operative aims to transform the lives of at least 20,000 young adult carers through support, mentoring, respite breaks, local projects and public awareness initiatives.
