Partnership leads to new jobs takeup

The former Old Thack Pub in Kirkby opened on Wednesday (20th November) after being converted into a brand new store.

Ashfield District Council provided rooms for a presentation and assisted with pre selection interviews in October with the 45 potential candidates.

Of these, 30 people were selected to take part in a sector based work academy organised by Jobcentre Plus.

This gave them the opportunity to undertake one week’s customer service training with a local training provider, Adaptive Training Solutions.

The training, held at the Summit Centre provided the candidates with an opportunity to improve on interview techniques, literacy and numeracy skills.

Of the 29 that attended the training session, 17 people were successfully taken on.

Two people have been offered a job at the Huthwaite store, nine have been shortlisted to go forward for interview for the new store opening in Annesley in the near future and one person was successful in obtaining a job in the care sector.

Coun Chris Baron, Ashfield District Council leader, said: “I am delighted for the council to be involved in projects such as these and encourage working in partnership with employers to assist local people in obtaining local jobs.”
