By joining forces, two charitable organisations have proved a winning combination by raising over £7,000 for the City Hospital.

Hucknall’s Rotary Club joined forces with the Hilltoppers Golf Society (based at Radford on Trent Golf Club) to support the project and helped raise £7,600 for the the new Wolfson Cystic Fibrosis Centre at the Nottingham site.

A group of Hucknall rotarians visited the new Centre ahead of its opening next week to see where the money collected would help patients.

The 16 bed unit cost over £6.6million and Hucknall Rotary Club were one of many local community groups who supported the project.

“The Wolfson CF Centre is an amazing facility that will transform the lives of CF sufferers and their families here in Nottingham,” said Rotary chairman, Ian Young. “It is truly innovative and will raise standards of care.”

The centre will be able to serve more than 250 patients from across Nottinghamshire and the surrounding counties, almost doubling the number of patients that can be currently accommodated.

The centre will be able to meet the complex needs of CF patients, transforming their hospital stay experience.

CF patients need to eat up to double the amount of calories the average person needs, so the centre will have its own chef and kitchen area.

Gym equipment, gardens and outdoor exercise space is very important to help the poor lung function of CF patients. The individual gym pods will help patients to feel that they are exercising as a group, without the risk of cross-infection.

The funds raised by Hucknall Rotary and Hilltoppers will be used to purchase equipment and was raised raised through various events including a golf day, fashion show, race night and Last Night of the Proms concert featuring Newstead Brass Band.

The partnership with Hilltoppers Golf Society came about through dual membership. This isn’t the first time the two groups have worked together for the same cause as they have previously collaborated to help the Friends of Chernobyl project in Hucknall.
