PC sent sex texts to victim

A serving Nottinghamshire police officer who was based at Sutton police station has been suspended from the force after admitting sending ‘sex texts’ to a vulnerable victim of crime.

Intelligence officer PC Simon Abell appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday where he pleaded guilty to a charge of committing misconduct in a public office.

Abell admitted sending sexually inappropriate messages to a woman, who was a vulnerable victim of crime, between November 2011 and February 2012.

The 42-year-old will be sentenced on 4th July and has subsequently been suspended from his duties as a police officer.

Det Supt Jackie Alexander, head of Nottinghamshire Police’s Professional Standards Directorate, said: “What Simon Abell did goes against everything that we, as a police force, stand for.

“He should have been there to protect vulnerable people and uphold the law but he abused this position of trust and failed to meet the high standards of integrity and professionalism that we expect from all our officers and employees.”
