People power has won the day after it was announced Speed cameras are to be introduced on a notorious Skegby road.
More than 290 people signed a petition to introduce traffic calming measures on Mansfield Road.
Now Nottinghamshire County Council has announced Mansfield Road is set to become a core casualty reduction mobile camera site before the end of March 2016.
The scheme is in the process of being designed and once the signs are in place the police will take routine enforcement action in the area.
Skegby resident Melanie Darrington, who organised the petition, said: “It is really good news - residents have worked for several years towards this and it is a great example of a community working together.
“This road is notorious for speeding and its horrific junctions and the speed cameras wil be a deterrent.
“We are now campaigning for safer junctions in the area.”
She added: “I have seen the new plans which could see more than 1,000 houses being built in Skegby and Stanton Hill, which will see even more traffic using Mansfield Road.”
