All of Nottinghamshire will be going into tier 3

Nottingham, Rushcliffe, Gedling and Broxtowe were due to move into the top tier of Covid restrictions on Thursday, October 28, however Mansfield, Ashfield, Bassetlaw and Newark and Sherwood will now also face the toughest measures.

But the changes do not come into force until midnight on Friday, October 29, and will expire in 28 days and will be closely monitored by Government and local partners.

Ashfield MP, Lee Anderson, said in a post on Facebook: “This is something I strongly opposed but the latest figures are hard to argue against. Our rates are rising whilst the city's are falling.

“Tier 3 will bring challenges but I will do my best to make sure our area gets the support it deserves.”

A statement from Ashfield District Council said: “Further details are expected to follow including the financial support and what the new measures will mean for people who live and work in Ashfield.

“We appreciate the need for certainty for our residents and our business community and as soon as we have more details these will be shared with you .

A joint statement from the leaders of Nottingham City, Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe Borough Councils, said: “We appreciate that our communities and businesses are awaiting clarity and certainty about how the tier 3 measures will impact on them.

“We await confirmation from government about their progress in drafting the necessary legislation for Nottingham, Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe.

“At the earliest opportunity, we will publish details of the measures and package of support.”

East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire) chief executive, Scott Knowles, said: “We urge the Government and those local authorities impacted to ensure they provide clear communication to businesses about what they need to do, as well as highlighting the support available to them and how it can be accessed.”
