The pandemic has impacted on a number of events this year and Remembrance Services are no exception.

The usual parades and church services are unable to take place, but events will still be held across the district to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and lost their lives in active service.

Residents are being asked not to gather at war memorials at 11am to ensure everyone can be kept safe, and instead they are being asked to participate in the act of Remembrance from home.

Poppy lights will be installed across the district including in Market Square, Hucknall, and at the Badger Box in Annesley, and will remain lit until the week after Remembrance Sunday.

Coun Jason Zadrozny, the leader of Ashfield District Council said: “Because of Covid-19, this year’s Day of Remembrance will be completely different.

"It is with a heavy heart that Government guidance will severely curtail what is always an amazing day in numerous locations across our district.

"We understand why though, our number one priority however is to ensure that people laying wreathes at our cenotaphs and memorials are safe.”

Ashfield District Council will instead be holding a virtual Remembrance Day on its social media channels and residents can get involved by displaying poppies in their windows.
