Former headteacher is a 'Hucknall Hero'

A former headteacher has been named a Hucknall Hero after she went has gone above and beyond during the coronavirus pandemic.

Helen Cable has been awarded her Hero status by Coun Kevin and Phil Rostance.

Helen received multiple nominations from her neighbours and residents of her street for her efforts over the last few months during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Throughout the lockdown period, Helen has gone ‘above and beyond’ for her neighbours, collecting shopping and prescriptions when required, putting together supplies and activities for families with children to help keep them motivated and active during home schooling.

Helen has also organised a number of food collections and donations for the local foodbank, as well as organising a socially distant VE day celebrations. On top of this, she even organised a socially distant ‘welcome back to the street’ event for a neighbour who has been hospitalised with the virus.

Co-creator of Hucknall Heroes, Coun Phil Rostance said: “Helen has been doing some fantastic work for her neighbours. She’s been areal pillar of the community, and judging by some of the nominations she’s received, I know a lot of people have leaned on her and really appreciated her support during these times.”

“Acknowledging the work people like Helen do is why I set up Hucknall Heroes. To my mind, Helen fully deserves this award and is a true Hucknall Hero.”
