Brothers Daniel Curtis, nine, and seven-year-old Isaac Curtis set up a stall at the end of their driveway so they could help their local food bank.

Their efforts went from strength to strength and before they knew it, they were being handed donations of plants, vegetables, planters and even nest boxes.

They sold items every weekend for around eight weeks and raised more than £700 for the Hucknall Food Bank.

Coun Phil Rostance said: “The second lockdown has made it a little difficult to award our heroes, but I was delighted to be able to make a socially distanced special delivery to these two amazing young men.

“We’ve been blown away by the incredible work these guys have been doing, not only the fantastic amount of money they have raised, but also the light they have brought into so many people’s lives both on the street and on social media where their goods were advertised.

“It really is amazing to see people of all ages helping our community during the lockdown. All of these little things have made a huge difference over the last few months.

“Daniel and Isaac, thank you, you are both Hucknall Heroes.”

The two boys were absolutely overwhelmed when they found out about their award and were so grateful for being acknowledged as heroes.

They have said they can’t believe it as they really enjoyed selling their seedlings and were doing it to help as many people as they could.

The boys even want to do it again next year.

During the current lockdown, Hucknall Heroes will be putting the presentations of their awards on hold but urge residents to continue nominating those who go above and beyond throughout lockdown to help others. They hope to be up and running again in December.

To nominate a community champion, email [email protected], or visit www.facebook.com/HucknallHeroes and provide your name and contact details, as well as the individual, group, organisation or business you wish to nominate and the reasons why.
