Last Wednesday (July 29) Theresa Gandy, 53, from Hucknall walked 13 miles from her home to the Mansfield Woodhouse Morrisons store where she works to raise money for the CLIC Sargent cancer charity.

During the current crisis, Morrisons stores removed their collection buckets and asked customers to donate to the store’s online JustGiving page as well as asking staff to help out with charity fundraising.

Theresa had previously enjoyed walking to maintain her weight and decided to do a walk to work challenge when the Morrisons store she works at asked for ideas to help raise much-needed funds.

Theresa said: “I know times are hard for a lot of us during these unprecedented times, some of the hardest hit are charities so when Morrisons asked for ideas to help to raise much-needed funds I thought what can I do to help?

“I couldn’t do anything in a big way to help what is currently happening but just by giving a day of my life it’s raised some money that will go to help children with cancer.”

Theresa aimed to raise £150 before completing the challenge but doubled that with a total of £300.

All the proceeds will be given to CLIC Sargent who help support young people and families with the financial cost and emotional impact of cancer.

Theresa added: “It’s just trying to help in a little way because you can’t test for the virus or anything like that but I can try and help the local community as well as the big charities like CLIC Sargent.”
