Nottinghamshire charity wants you grant a Christmas wish for children in hospital

Nottingham Hospitals Charity has launched its annual Grant a Christmas Wish campaign, which encourages members of the public to make a donation towards a gift for a child at Nottingham Children’s Hospital this Christmas.

Donations can be made online and donors can choose from toys, art and craft supplies, technology and more, to help bring a smile to the faces of babies, toddlers and young people being treated at Nottingham Children’s Hospital, which is based at the Queen’s Medical Centre.

All gifts have been specially selected by play specialists at the hospital, to ensure they will be used and loved by the young patients.

Michael Warriner’s three-year-old son Archie has been treated on the children’s cancer ward at Nottingham Children’s Hospital since January this year, when he was diagnosed with liver cancer.

Michael said: “Knowing people have taken the time out to help and donate means the world at such an uncertain time.

“The kindness of strangers makes you feel less alone as a parent and for the children, it’s everything.

"Not having a normal Christmas or the one they are expecting is devastating for them so to get little gifts whilst they are in hospital puts a smile of their faces and shows that people care.

"These children deserve a special Christmas.”

Louise Knight, head of fundraising at Nottingham Hospitals Charity, said: “We know this is going to be a difficult Christmas for many families, including those who find themselves in hospital over the festive period.

"Care will continue at Nottingham Children’s Hospital throughout the Christmas period, and we’d like to make this time as special as possible for the children and young people on our wards.

“Last Christmas, thanks to our donors, we raised almost £4,000 and were able to provide 190 Christmas presents to young patients .

"This year we’d like to do even more to bring some happiness to the families on the wards after a challenging year."
