Pervert caught taking pictures up women's skirts in busy shopping centre '˜needs help'

James Christopher Jackson was spotted by security guards at the Broadmarsh shopping centre on August 6 last year, crouching behind a woman in the sunglasses aisle of the Boots store at 4.50pm.

Lee Shepherd, prosecuting, said: “He bent behind her and appeared to be taking a picture on a mobile phone. He then got up and pretended to look at goods on the shelf.”

Jackson was followed by guards and detained at the Poundland store nearby. The police were called and the victim, a tourist from the Philippines, was informed.

Police seized Jackson’s phone and discovered 80 similar images of numerous women.

The court heard that Jackson had been cautioned for a similar offence in 2006.

Mr Shepherd said: “He hasn’t got the message and continues to act. There are lots of victims out there who didn’t know they had been a victim of Mr Jackson.”

Jackson, 38, admitted voyeurism by recording a person doing a private act so he could get sexual gratification in December last year.

He also pleaded guilty to looking at images for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification between February 1 and August 6.

Rosemary Holland, mitigating, said as a result of the conviction, Jackson had lost his girlfriend, contact with his family and his job as a postal operative.

She said: “He was allowed to hand in his notice and is now in difficulty with his application for Job Seeker’s Allowance.

“It has had an impact emotionally, with his relationships, and financially.”

The court heard that Jackson, formerly of Watnall Road, Hucknall, was now using credit cards to pay for bed and breakfast accomodation.

“He is in dire straits effectively,” she said.

Deputy district judge Peter King imposed a three year community order on Jackson with a 20 day rehabilitation activity requirment - a community sex offenders group work programme.

He was also put on the sex offenders register and told to pay a £60 surcharge. The court ordered that Jackson’s phone be destroyed.
