The tea set was made at Pinxton China Factory between 1796 and 1813, and is painted in brown monochrome with several landscapes, including views of Hardwick Hall.

It is being sold by Nottingham auction house, Mellors and Kirk, and is one of the few complete sets to come up for sale.

Auctioneeer Nigel Kirk said: “Complete services of Pinxton porcelain are very, very rare.

“It is quite something to see it displayed together, especially as it is in superb condition for all its 200 years.

“Although Pinxton is situated in a heavily industrialised corner of the county the factory produced some of the most beautiful and sought after ceramic art in the world during its short lifespan.

“The rare Pinxton porcelain was produced there for less than 20 years and the rarity value of this most distinctive English porcelain has made it extremely collectable.”

The tea service includes unusual miniature stands known cup-plates, and coffee ‘cans’.

Estimates are said to range from £250-£350 for a cup and saucer to £800-£1,200 for the teapot

A Pinxton porter tankard with panelled scenes of Brookhill Hall, in Pinxton, recently went under the hammer at Sotheby’s for £14,500.
