Jason Richard Hole, 21 pleaded guilty to assaulting Kylie Tomlinson on August 12 when he appeared at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Hole of Crompton Road, also admitted damaging a front window at the house following the attack.

He also pleaded guilty to failing to surrender to custody at the court having been released on bail in criminal proceedings.

District Judge Diane Baker was told Hole had been under the influence of alcohol when he had returned to the property and headbutted Miss Tomlinson as she sat on the sofa, leaving a painful lump on her forehead.

There had been a child present at the time of the attack.

Counsel for the defence said Hole had been full of remorse following the attack and did not wish to minimise his unacceptable behaviour.

The couple were trying to get their relationship back on track.

The judge said: “This is a case of domestic violence - she was your partner and you breached that trust.

“If you had not entered a guilty plea at an early opportunity we would have been looking at sending you into custody.”

Hole was sentenced to a total of 12 weeks imprisonment suspended for a year, 60 hours of unpaid work, with a year’s supervision order.

He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a victim surcharge of £80.
