The Police and Crime Commissioner and Derbyshire Constabulary have launched a fresh public consultation exercise aimed at capturing local opinion on policing and community safety throughout 2015.

“Over to You” is an annual survey and will be available both online (http://www.derbyshire-pcc.gov.uk/oty) and at public consultation events across Derbyshire, it will include a survey about policing and members of the Commissioner’s team will be on hand to talk to, along with police officers.

“It’s been good to see so many people willing to give us their opinions on local issues,” Mr. Charles said. “I’ve been really interested to learn that most of the people we talk to want to see a freeze on further policing cuts.

“These first-hand accounts of their views on policing give me invaluable guidance when I discuss local priorities with the Chief Constable, so that we can address these and make the county safer.”

Due to the financial pressures faced and the fact that resources have to be prioritised so carefully the questions in the survey will reflect this and are intended to make people think about prioritising and allow them to reach more informed opinions.

The results from the survey will be fed directly back into the Force operational structure so that not only officers in the local area are made aware of the concerns each community has but that it also forms a core part of the strategic risk planning process.

The event will also provide crime prevention advice to residents to help them protect themselves and their property from crime.
