A valuable statue of one of Britain’s greatest poets, who is buried in Nottinghamshire, has been stolen.
The £10,000 4ft tall solid marble statue of Lord Byron, whose body is buried in Hucknall, was taken from Godmersham Park, near Ashford, Kent, between midnight and 5am on Wednesday, April 20.
Detectives said the statue is “extremely heavy” and would have required a number of people to manoeuvre it.
The 19th century romantic poet was born in London and travelled the world before he died in 1824.
He was buried in Hucknall where many of his relatives are from.
Police are asking anyone with information to get in touch by calling them on 101.
