PC Michael Gratton, 36, based at Riverside Police Station, admitted to breaching the standards expected of him in relation to duties and responsibilities at an internal conduct hearing yesterday (March 14).

The discreditable conduct took place between May 2016 and December 2016.

PC Gratton accepted that he was running a business alongside his policing career which had not been authorised by the force which was a known requirement.

He admitted to then deliberately leaving out relevant information from a formal application to undertake the personal business interest.

Even after further conditions we put in place PC Gratton continued to take part in the business.

His conduct was found to amount to gross misconduct and he was dismissed without notice.

He may now appeal the decision.

Detective Chief Inspector Lee Young said “Nottinghamshire Police’s Officers and staff are expected to disclose their involvement in secondary employment that are in addition to their policing career. “This is a measure to ensure that they remain impartial and uncompromised in their duties.

“In this instance an officer has deliberately failed to adequately disclose a business interest and furthermore been dishonest in relation to the matter.

“A basic expectation of an officer is an ability to always maintain his or her honesty and integrity. Where our high standards are not being met we will take the appropriate action.”
