Portland College Inclusive Mile boosts Sports Academy campaign

Sporting students at staff at Portland College built up a healthy sweat last week as they took part in the College’s Inclusive Mile to raise £100 towards a new Sports Academy.

The College hope to raise a whopping £2m for new sporting facilities at their Nottingham Road campus for athletes and community groups around Mansfield and Ashfield.

As part of the fundraiser 100 students and staff got involved in running and cycling a mile, or completing the distance in a wheelchair to raise money towards the facility.

The event was organised by students currently undertaking NVQs in Sport at the College, with participants given four options for getting involved dependant on their ability.

David Winter, sports co-ordinator, said, “It was fantastic to see so many people from our student cohort along with members of staff getting involved.

“Sport at College is fully inclusive, so by offering so many options for individuals to get involved, we saw a wide range of abilities and disabilities from our participants – nobody was excluded or excused from getting involved.

“The money raised goes towards our appeal to raise £2m to allow the new Sports Academy to be built – every little bit of money we raise or is donated is one step closer to making it happen.”
