SPUD-lovers in Hucknall can look forward to a potato weekend to help raise money for local allotments.
Organiser Maxine Gaskell says the event will include a variety of more than 35 different potatoes with the cash raised being put towards upkeep of allotments run by Hucknall Cottage Gardenholders’ Association, which is off Wood Lane.
The event takes place on Saturday and Sunday, February 4 and 5, at the John Godber Centre on Ogle Street. It will include stalls, refreshments and a display from a local beekeeper.
“It’s a bit of an experiment this year and we’re just going to see how it goes,” said Maxine. “But all the money goes back into a pot for allotment holders so it is a very good community event.”
The cash raised will contribute to buying new skips, maintaining hedging and other maintenance tasks which can often prove costly. Anyone wishing to run an allotment can also sign up during the event.
