Jaycie Lee Brown, 26, of Westbourne Close, Mansfield Woodhouse, admitted assaulting the woman in the Talbot pub on the High Street, on January 15.

Mansfield magistrates watched CCTV footage of the brawl which showed Brown grab her victim’s throat and slap her, before her victim retaliated.

Other drinkers tried to separate the woman as staff removed glasses from the bar, and police swiftly arrived to intervene and arrest Brown.

Neil Hollett, prosecuting, said Brown could be seen picking up her mobile phone from the bar and swinging it downwards during the fight.

He said that the victim sustained bite marks, but these could not be attributed to Brown.

Chris Lacey, mitigating, said: “It has not been easy to determine what the appropriate plea should be.

“Fortunately no one sustained any significant injuries.”

He said the CCTV contradicted the victim’s side of the story as it clearly showed her approaching Brown at the bar.

He said: “My client was at the bar standing between two men. She believes this man and his friend stood on either side of her to identify her.

“That’s when the woman came up and said something distressing.”

The court heard Brown had received a community order in December 2015 for ‘an almost identical offence.’

She was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £80. No compensation was awarded.
