Pupils to get behind dog foul campaign

Pupils at Eastlands Junior School in Meden Vale are getting behind a council campaign to get dog-owners cleaning up their pets’ poops.

During a litter-picking drive students noticed a problem with dog-fouling on the white path which many of them use as a cut-through on the way to and from the school.

They, along with other schools across Mansfield District, will be taking part in a competition to name the campaign’s mascot and design a poster which will be used as part of the promotion.

Teaching assistant Judith Wood said: “The problem is getting worse in the village and we need to get the message out there.

“That is why we are getting Year 3 students involved because it is quite shocking to the younger ones.”

The competition is part Mansfield District Council’s new Your Dog, Your Responsibility campaign, which also gives dog owners information on micro-chipping, excessive barking, neutering and control.

Members of the Council’s Environmental Health and Neighbourhood Warden services have already attended Oak Tree Fun Day in August to hand out dog goodie bags and talk about the importance of being a responsible owner.

Council officers are available to visit schools or community groups within the Mansfield District to talk about the Your Dog, Your Responsibility campaign. For more information phone 01623 463 011 or 463 391.
