David Brown told Chad: “A woman brought in a distressed domestic rabbit she had found abandoned at garages to the rear of the Leicester Housing Association flats on Layton Avenue.

“My first impression was he had been attacked by an urban fox or a dog.

“Later after finishing evening surgery, on closer examination I found there had been an attempt at castration.

“I consider this to be a case of the outmost cruelty.

“I have been doing this for 56 years -I have never seen anything like this.”

The vet anaesthetised the rabbit and managed to effect a surgical repair.

Its injuries were too graphic for us to publish in full.

He said the bunny has now recovered and has been re-homed.
