Rainworth wind farm generates power for 10,000 homes in just three days

The Lindhurst Wind Farm at Lindhurst Farm off Blidworth Lane , generated 367MW of electricity across the 6th, 7th and 8th November - enough to power one in ten homes in the town.

Industry experts say the facility offset tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions at the time of generation.

Robin Basten Regional Manager of owners RWE Innogy UK, said: “These figures really highlight wind power’s contribution to the energy mix and to our society.

“Locally, Lindhurst wind farm is playing an important part in contributing to this clean energy mix whilst also supporting the surrounding community.

“Through its community benefit fund, the Wind Farm has already invested over £30,000 into local groups and organisations.”

The wind farm which was built in 2010, is made up of five turbines and is capable of generating more than nine megawatts of renewable electricity.

Lindhurst’s 9,900 home figure is based on an annual electricity consumption per home of 4500kWh.

Lindhurst Wind Farm was approved by the planning committee at Newark and Sherwood District Council in September 2007.

At the time local residents came out in force against the plans with a 2,500 name petition and the project was opposed by Mansfield MP Alan Meale and Sherwood MP at the time Paddy Tipping.

Objectors to the plans said the 125m high turbines would be too high and too near local homes.

Countrywide figures from the National Grid for October 2014 show that wind power smashed energy generation records. On 20th October, wind energy hit a record high providing a 24 per cent of the UK’s electricity needs.
