Restraining order for Mansfield man who tried to touch his partner's work friend

Two days before Christmas, Elwyn Vaughan Tagg, of Romsey Place, visited the woman’s house late at night.

The surprised victim knew him as the partner of a work colleague, so let him in.

Tagg, 47, went into her lounge, sat down and began rubbing her hands before she pulled away.

Outlining the case for the Crown at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court, Anna Pierrepoint said the woman became increasingly worried by his behaviour and became scared.

She then went into her kitchen and he followed her, touching her buttock and making a comment about how much he liked it.

The victim told him not do it and then went outside the back of her house for a cigarette.

Ms Pierrepoint said the woman felt sick and frightened but tried to make light of the situation.

However, he then said he had killed two people when he was younger, and that was why he carried a gun.

When she finally managed to persuade him to leave, he demanded a kiss.

In the days that followed, he pestered her for her phone number and told her he was watching her, the court was told.

In a statement read out by Ms Pierrepoint on behalf of the victim, she said: “I live alone and feel quite frightened.

“I felt he ruined my Christmas for me. I feel trapped in my own home.

“I just want him to know how much he has affected me.

“He has carried on with his life and I have been left a wreck.”

The victim said she was now on medication and was waiting to have CCTV cameras installed at her home.

Tagg admitted a charge of common assault, but was not represented by a solicitor in court.

When asked if he wanted to explain his actions, he just said: “I don’t even like the woman anyway.”

He was handed 120 hours’ community service, £25 costs and given an restraining order to not contact the woman or go to Kaye Road, Mansfield, where she lives.

No time scale was put on when the restraining order would end.
