REVEALED: The best secondary schools in North Notts

Many secondary schools across North Nottinghamshire have beaten the Government's minimum target to ensure pupils gain at least five A*-C grades

The institutions must ensure that at least 40 per cent of their pupils gained at least five C grades at GCSE in 2015.

From next year, all schools will be measured that way.

And according to new league tables published by the Department for Education, all but six of North Nottinghamshire secondary schools managed to beat the target.

Here are the secondary schools with the best results for these grades:

5. Hall Park Academy, Eastwood, got 59 per cent of pupils to get at least 5 A*-C grades.

4. Tuxford Academy, Tuxford, managed to get 67 per cent of students the good grades.

3. All Saints Catholic Voluntary Academy, Mansfield, also got 67 per cent of students to meet the target.

2. Outwood Academy Valley, Worksop, beat the benchmark by getting these grades from 77 per cent of pupils.

1. Outwood Academy Portland, Worksop, is the top performing school in North Nottinghamshire, with 81 per cent of pupils achieving these grades.

The national average for 2015 across all schools in England was 53.8 per cent.

Councillor John Peck, committee chairman for children, families and cultural services at Nottinghamshire County Council said: “I’d like to congratulate young people across Nottinghamshire for these excellent results and would also like to acknowledge the dedication and commitment from teachers and parents across the county.

“Teachers have been working hard, focusing their efforts on supporting pupils and raising standards and this is borne out by the results.”

He also acknowledged that there have been some notable successes for individual schools as well as some disappointing outcomes.

He said that he had invited the Regional Schools Commissioner Jenny Bexon-Smith to attend a forthcoming Children and Young People’s Committee to ensure that elected members hear from her as to how she intends to address underperforming academies and sponsors in Nottinghamshire.
