Roads need to be repaired says MP

Potholes are a widespread problem across Ashfield and after receiving complaints from constituents, MP Gloria De Piero, invited Andrew Warrington, highways director, to check Ashfield’s roads for himself and put in place preparations to repair roads that are in a poor state of repair.

The Ashfield MP took a guided tour with Mr Warrington on 29th November.

When she was first elected back in 2010, Gloria was shocked at how widespread the problem of potholes was in the area and in that time many residents have raised the issue with her time and time again as part of her regular casework.

Though Gloria has noticed local people have been reporting a significant improvement after she has intervened there is still more to do so the MP invited the council chief to Ashfield so that she can update him on some remaining hot spots.

Mr Warrington inspected Bourne Avenue in Kirkby, which has only recently been repaired by workmen after fed up residents contacted Gloria to complain about the state of the residential road.

Following Gloria’s swift intervention the road was quickly repaired.

Despite the steady progress that has been made the MP said she is acutely aware potholes are still an ongoing problem for man and she said she remains determined to tackle the problem whenever she can.

The MP and director of highways also inspected Oxford Street in Kirkby.

Residents had reported that the road is in a particular poor state of repair.

The MP asked the council boss what his plans are for the road and the time scales involved.
