AN iconic feature of picturesque Linby has been enhanced — thanks to a helping hand from Hucknall Rotary Club.

Members have assisted Linby Parish Council to build a couple of stone dams in the Docks, the historic section of the River Leen which runs along the village’s Main Street.

The club’s participation in the project came about because it holds its weekly meetings at Linby’s Horse and Groom pub.

Club president Ian Young explained: “We wanted to extend our varied community service to the village we meet in.”

The challenge involved transporting a gigantic stone, cutting it to size and lowering it into the Docks. The bed of the waterway had to be cleared and levelled in readiness for the dams being laid.

The new look of the Docks has already attracted much interest as people stop to watch the water cascade over the stone dams.

Mr Young said anyone wishing to get involved in community projects or become a Rotarian should e-mail
