YOU don’t have to be a child to enjoy a visit from Santa as many people realised at a festive celebration for the over 50s.

On the afternoon of Saturday December 15, 56 guests and carers from sheltered housing across the Bulwell district came together at the Healthy Living Centre for some festive fun and a jolly time courtesy of the Bulwell Hall Tenants and Residents’ Association.

Residents from HazelHurst, Naomi, Springfield Nursing Home, Hall Park Nursing Home and pensioners from the Bulwell Hall area were entertained by Maverick, a visit from Santa, raffle and bingo.

Donations from Morrisons and Wilkinson’s of Bulwell, Look Sharp Barbers, Hucknall Lane, M L Butchers, Bulwell and Local 4 U, Hucknall Lane and NCH, made the event a great success.

A party for youngsters from the Bulwell Hall area followed on Monday December 17 from 4-6pm where over 50 children plus parents and grandparents enjoyed all on offer.

“Both parties were brilliant,” said tenants and residents’ association chairman, Sheila Loades. “We had a wonderful response from the young and the not so young who all had a really great time.

“Unfortunately we didn’t get enough funding this year to make it a free event and we had to charge £3 but the donations received from local businesses helped a lot.”

The association organise many community events throughout the year as well as being a contact point for any residents’ concerns on countless matters.

They hold meetings regularly with council officials and the police for any issues to be discussed with the relevant agencies.

“We have been running for six years now but this was our fifth year of party hosting,” added Sheila.

“It’s hard work organising and running them but it’s always worthwhile.”
