Sarah’s father ‘calls for calm’

Sarah Redfern (31) was injured in the incident at about 4.30am on Saturday 2nd August and died at Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre two days later.

The exact circumstances of the former Manor Academy student’s death have not been revealed, but it is understood that she was returning home from Mansfield town centre at the time of the collision.

A 28-year-old man, who is understood to have been walking with Sarah at the time of the collision, received minor injuries and was treated at King’s Mill hospital.

A 27-year-old man and 26-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

It is understood that three other people were in the vehicle at the time of the crash, and that the male was behind the wheel and the 26-year-old female is the registered keeper.

Neither have yet been named by police and both are expected to answer bail in September while investigations continue.

Sarah’s dad, Gary, said: “There has been a lot of rumour and speculation flying around about what happened on Saturday. I would ask that people stay calm and respectful, and show patience while officers investigate what took place that night.”

A date for the opening of the inquest into the young mum’s death has not yet been set, a spokesman for HM Coroner’s Service told Chad.

Following news that Sarah had died, dozens of floral tributes were left at the scene of the collision, at the junction of Woodhouse Road and Haddon Road.

Chad’s Facebook page was also inundated with hundreds of messages of condolence from well-wishers.
