SatNav sends Mansfield drink driver to court

A Mansfield woman has been fined £230 after admitting driving while more than twice over the legal drink drive limit.

Mansfield magistrates were told how Malgorzata Brodecka (36), of Victoria Street, was seen driving with two flat front tires and stopped by police.

Robert Carr, prosecuting, said Brodecka was given a roadside breath test, which she failed, after officers smelt alcohol on her breath.

Mary Dixon, defending, said Brodecka had drunk three pints of lager and was driving a friend who needed emergency dental treatment.

She added: “During the journey her SatNav fell and she bent down to retrieve it and hit a kerb, causing the flat tires.

“She is a woman of good character with no previous convictions, who works full-time.”

Brodecker was banned from driving for 20 months. She was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £23 and court costs of £85.

The ban will be reduced if she completes a course.
