Saturday is the business for Mansfield

The idea was introduced from the US by shadow business secretary, Chuka Umunna, and is supported by prime minister David Cameron.

It is a national grassroots campaign that encourages people to shop locally as well as support small businesses in their communities.

As part of their support, the Ashfield and Mansfield Shared Regeneration Team (working on behalf of both Mansfield and Ashfield District Councils) are offering a number of schemes including business forums and events, graduate and undergraduate placement schemes, business grants, property searches and an ambassador’s programme.

Meanwhile, the council’s property services team in Mansfield also manages a portfolio of business premises suitable for all business needs including industrial, retail and office.

There are a number of cash incentives available to tenants taking on leases for council-owned business property including the Tenant Referral Scheme (£250), Business Place Cash Back Scheme (£500) and Property Cash Back Scheme (£1,000).

People looking to test out their business can sell their goods on Mansfield Market, with new traders receiving a free rental period and multiple stall discounts for existing traders.

Mayor Tony Egginton said: “Small businesses are vital to the success of the district as they create jobs, power the economy and invigorate communities.

“We have some great business minds within our community and this national event aims to encourage people to support their local small businesses both on this day and throughout the year. What better time to highlight our small local businesses than on the run up to Christmas – so rather than going global on your shopping sprees – go local.
