Scheme aims to help Hucknall train visitors

A BID is being made for train travellers visiting Hucknall to benefit from a day ticket scheme.

The Kangaroo concession means that passengers can hop on and off any tram, bus or train in the Greater Nottingham area as much as they like.

But Coun John Wilkinson, a Hucknall member of Nottinghamshire County Council, said that as far as trains are concerned, the scheme does not include Hucknall.

He is therefore asking East Midlands Trains for the three-mile run between Bulwell and Hucknall to be covered by the Kangaroo.

Coun Wilkinson raised the matter at a meeting of Hucknall Tourism and Regeneration Group and members agreed with his view that the day ticket could encourage more people to visit the town.

The fare between Hucknall and Bulwell is £1.70.

A spokesman for the independent Passenger Focus said the request seemed ‘a good idea.’

No-one was available to comment for East Midland Trains.
