THE SEARCH is on for Hucknall’s unsung heroes and community champions after the launch of the annual Pride Of Ashfield civic awards.
Nominations are now being sought for the prestigious accolades, the winners of which will be unveiled at a glitzy ceremony next spring.
Volunteers, local firms, entrepreneurs and long-standing groups can all be put forward.
The awards are organised by Ashfield District Council, and the top prize is the Citizen Of The Year award.
Coun May Barsby (Lab), chairman of Ashfield Council, said: “These awards recognise the hidden stars of Ashfield — people who would not normally be nominated for awards but who play a vital role in supporting their community.”
Last year, Cyril Thomas, of Greenwood Vale, was crowned Hucknall’s Citizen Of The Year, while Friday Tots, which runs play sessions for children, was Community Group Of The Year in Hucknall.
Nomination forms for the 2012 awards are now available from Ashfield Council’s office on Watnall Road in Hucknall, Hucknall Library or receptions at Hucknall Leisure Centre and Edgewood Leisure Centre in the town.
