Philip Colclough, 43 and Elizabeth Colclough, 45 of Valentine Avenue, Selston pleaded guilty to producing cannabis, when they appeared at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

The court heard police executed a search warrant at the house on March 9 where they found 42 cannabis plants in various stages of maturity.

There was a hydroponic set up for growing the plants which were set up in such a way as to produce a continual cycle of growth.

Police found eight plant at their full yield.

In mitigation the court was told Philip Colclough had claimed the drugs were for his own personal use.

He told police he had cancer and had been taking cannabis to alleviate the condition.

The couple deny the haul was a commercial growth and said their whole lifestyle was consistent with their claim.

The court heard their guilty plea was not made on a full fact basis.

The case will be sent to Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on October 28.
