Last month eight children were separated from their families at new tram stops in Nottingham.
Tram drivers have now been asked to take more care at stops to try and avoid splitting people up when they pull off from the platforms.
Tram operator NET says that the problem is down to people not being used to the service along the new lines in Clifton and Beeston.
A spokesman said: “In September we had slightly more cases of child separations due to the number of people using the expanded network for the first time.
“We’ve robust procedures in place for when these unfortunate incidents occur and we’ve also reminded drivers to remain extra vigilant before closing doors when families or young children are either getting on to a tram or already on board.
“Thankfully the number of incidents of this kind have fallen considerably as people have become used to the network.”
