Sex charges youth worker is bailed

A jury has been discharged in the trial of a youth worker accused of having sex with a vulnerable 15-year-old girl he was supporting.

Mark Wakeling, of Portland Road, Langwith, was found not guilty on three charges of engaging in sexual activity while he was in a position of trust, and one of sending her sexualised text messages.

Wakeling was employed as a personal advisor at the Connexions office in Ryton Street, Worksop, the court heard.

But the jury at Nottingham Crown Court failed to return a verdict on three other charges after more than four hours of deliberation.

Judge Philip Head dismissed the jury on Friday afternoon after deliberating for more than four hours.

He said the case will be relisted on 25th March to allow the Crown Prosecution Service to decide whether it wished to pursue a retrial.

Wakeling, who denied all the charges, was released on bail.
