Newly released monthly employment figures show record levels of employment across the country, with more than 2.3 million more people now in work across the UK since 2010.

Employment is at 1.4 million which is up 588,000 over the past year.

MP Mark Spencer has welcomed these figures, pointing also to local success in his Sherwood constituency.

Mark said: ‘‘In Sherwood we’ve seen amazing improvements in employment levels, including for young people.

Unemployment here is just two per cent compared with five per cent nationally.

“It’s 174 more people back in work compared with a year ago, and actually since 2010 the level of unemployment here in Sherwood has more than halved.

‘‘That’s huge for local people, who now have more security from regular pay, in jobs that are mostly full time, and means that more people can afford to support themselves and their families.

“I’m delighted that people in our area are working hard and getting on, and that clearly the Government is getting it right in terms of the environment and support for people to take these opportunities.’’

Unemployment is at 1.68 million which is down by 239,000 over the past year and down 835,000 since 2010.
