Shirebrook’s history will be captured in a film

Work has begun on a film documenting Shirebrook’s history featuring pictures and memories with help from the town’s academy pupils and its residents.

The film - which has yet to be named - will be released 16th July next year to mark the official launch of Shirebrook Academy.

Bolsover District Council, working alongside producers Absolute Video, is now calling for old photos and footage of the town or any other material which could help bring the film to the screen.

And from March next year the Hallé and Shirebrook Unison Band, who have been a part of the town’s history for over a century, will be working with the academy to produce a backing track for the work.

Coun Ann Syrett, Bolsover District Council’s member for social inclusion, said: “When we commissioned this project we knew it would be special, but to give pupils the chance to work alongside one of the best orchestras in the world – that is a truly memorable experience not to be missed.

“Everyone involved has thrown themselves into the project and has been having great fun along the way. But what we have also seen is the creative talent some of our young pupils have and this will only be improved by the fact that they will be working with the Hallé from March.”
