Skills success for college’s students

Two students at West Nottinghamshire College have secured places in the finals of a national skills competition.

Students Deanna Pitacco (35) and George Morris (17) will both be representing the college at the World Skills UK competition - set to take place at the Birmingham NEC between 14th and 16th November.

Holistic therapy student Deanna, from South Normanton, will be competing in the aromatherapy competition at the event, while IT student George, from Church Warsop, will put his computer skills to the test in the Microsoft Network administrator category.

Working on a real-life model, Deanna will have 90 minutes to carry out a full consultation in order to formulate a treatment plan, create two blends of oils for a client’s condition, deliver a full aromatherapy massage treatment and provide her model with after-care advice.

Meanwhile, George came first in the Microsoft Network administrator competition heats earlier this year.

Principal Asha Khemka OBE said: “This is the third year running that the college’s computer science students have scored a first place in the regional heats. It’s wonderful to hear that our holistic therapies curriculum is also sending a student on to the finals as well.”
