Soldier assault: new case

A SECOND Bulwell man has been charged in connection with a brutal attack on an off-duty soldier in Nottingham city centre.

Last month, the Dispatch told how Jamie Edwards (19) was punched to the ground and kicked in the head in an unprovoked assault on Clumber Street at 2.30 am on Sunday June 5.

The Grenadier Guard was on leave and out in his home city with his fiancee when he was attacked. He suffered a broken jaw and eye injuries. It was feared he would lose his sight.

Luke Stone (21), of Cheviot Drive, Bulwell, and Aaron Winfield (19), of Broxtowe, pleaded guilty to assault causing grievous bodily harm.

Nottingham Crown Court heard that the attackers had been out binge-drinking. Stone was jailed for four-and-a-half years and Winfield was sent down for four years.

Now police have arrested and charged Daniel Moore (22), of Lathkill Close, Bulwell. He too is accused of assault causing grievous bodily harm.

Moore has been released on police bail and is set to appear at Nottingham Crown Court next Monday (October 10).

Mr Edwards has made a recovery and rejoined his unit.
