South Normanton homes development completed

A development of 33 new affordable homes in South Normanton has officially been completed.

The scheme at Carter Lane is the first Futures Homescape development in South Normanton and the biggest for the Ripley-based housing provider in Bolsover district to date.

New tenants have moved into the £3.4 million Futures Homescape scheme which features a mixture of two and three-bedroom homes and a one-bedroom flat.

Futures Homescape partnered with Westleigh Developments and Bolsover District Council to deliver the scheme, which received investment of £750,000 from the Homes and Communities Agency.

The completion of the Carter Lane development closely follows the start on site at another development in South Normanton which will see seven new semi-detached properties built in New Street.

Futures Homescape is partnering with developer Chevin Homes on the £710,000 development which has received a HCA grant of £154,000 and £59,000 funding from Bolsover District Council, which it secured as part of a planning obligation associated with development within South Normanton, and is set to be completed in December 2015.

Paul Parkinson, executive director of Futures Homescape, which is part of Futures Housing Group, said: “We are pleased to be able to welcome tenants into affordable homes of a very high quality and delighted to have completed what is our first development in South Normanton and our biggest in Bolsover district to date, and I’d like to thank Bolsover District Council for their support on this project.

“This is a marker for us extending our reach and an important milestone in our commitment to build another 1,000 homes across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire between now and 2020.

“It is great to be able to continue the momentum in South Normanton by following up the completion of the Carter Lane development by starting on site to build another seven homes in New Street.”

A recent report by the National Housing Federation revealed house prices in the East Midlands are set to rise from an average of £170,000 to £212,000 by 2020, an increase of more than 20 per cent. The NHF also estimates private rents will increase by 30 per cent the same period.

Coun Alan Tomlinson, Bolsover District Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, said: “This is a fantastic development and one we are proud to have been a part of.

“Finding the right home at an affordable price - especially with the recent welfare reforms – is becoming harder and harder, so we are delighted that this development has been completed and we are certain it will meet the housing needs of the local community.”
